Scarf Model
SCARF stands for the five key "domains" that influence our behavior in social situations...
- Status: relative importance to others.
- Certainty: ability to predict your future.
- Autonomy: sense of control over events.
- Relatedness: sense of safety with others, of friend rather than foe. Are you part of the in-group.
- Fairness: perception of fair exchanges between people
To help people feel more safer, you can try changing the threats and rewards in these five areas. To make an activity more appealing, you can think how to tweak the activity to reward one or more of the elements in this list.
Going up in any of these areas is a Reward and going down is a Threat. Even the possibility of going up or down will be a Threat or Reward.
Brain response to this with Approach/Avoid - stimuli that has a threat attached will be avoided and reward stimuli will be approached.
