Personhood

Person is a being who are part of our moral community.

Different possible criteria for personhood...

Cognitive Criteria

• Consciousness
• Reasoning
• Self motivated activity
• Capacity to communicate
• Self awareness

Social Criteria

You are a person when society sees you as a person

• Capacity to feel pleasure/pain
• Personhood can be a scale as well: Fetus might be a person, but it has less personhood than a full adult
