If the patient is unconscious and not breathing, start CPR. Steps...
- Check safety - make sure the area is safe for you and the patient
- Check response - tap/pinch shoulders, shout 'are you ok'. Be a bit violent. They should not be able to ignore you
- Call for help - Call emergency service - or ask for someone nearby to call. Ask for AED/Defibrillator
- Check Breathing
- Put your ear to their mouth while looking at their chest
- Listen/feel for breath - look for chest going up/down
- Wait 10 seconds
- Start Chest Compressions - if not breathing, start CPR
- Place person on the flat of their back
- Kneel next to their chest
- Place heel of one hand in the center of chest
- Other hand on top
- Lock your elbows - they shouldn't bend
- Push using body weight
- Push 5-6 cm deep - based on body type
- 100-120 pushes per minute
- Let chest come fully up before pushing
- Rotate with other people if you have to
- Do not stop until
- Medical person tells you to stop
- Person starts breathing normally
- You are exhausted
